This is where it all started. The Kohley family purchased Fruitport Bottled Gas in 1980. This included the building at 365 S. Third St and a propane dispensing station with 3,000 gallons of storage. It wasn’t until 1985 that a 30,000 gallon storage tank was installed on the property. This allowed us to fill our bobtail delivery truck onsite and have large transport loads of propane delivered.
The original office building at Fruitport is still standing and being used by Excel Propane every day. We did add an attached garage and back office to help as the company grew. While it is our smallest and oldest building, we lovingly refer to it as a “Corporate Headquarters”.
The Fruitport office also oversees our Kent City Storage location which was opened in 2017 and allowed us to expand our service area. Combined, the Fruitport and Kent City locations have allowed us to serve a wide range of communities in West Michigan. We have an amazing team at the Fruitport office composed of some of our longest tenured employees who remain focused on caring for our customers.
