In 2017, Excel Propane opened a Refueling Storage Facility in Kent City. Excel purchased a property along 17 Mile Rd by simply knocking on the door of the small building on site. The building and property was owned by a company called JDR Cutting Tools. The owner ran a small machine shop inside the building. The timing was right when we knocked on the door and the owner was interested in selling the property! The building was rented and remained used by JDR Cutting Tools for many years afterwards.
Excel Propane had obtained a 30,000 gallon storage tank through the acquisition of Baker’s Propane Company back in 2016. The Kent City property was the perfect place to put that tank to good use. The 30,000 gallon tank was cleaned up, repainted, and installed for use. While we don’t have full-time staff working 8am-5pm at the Kent City location, the facility is used everyday in the winter to refill our Bobtail delivery trucks and restock our service trucks.
The Kent City location is managed and overseen by our Fruitport office manager.
